Community Service

Community service is a very important part of a lot of people’s lives!  Just think.. TOMS are an extremely popular company, and I bet many of you own a pair.  The company is making a huge difference for many people, because they give shoes to people who can’t afford them.  TOMS might not be giving back to their local community, but it is helping other community’s.  When I did the Stop Hunger Now project, I was feeding kids and their families all over the nation!  I might not be feeding local children and families, but I am helping many people.  Making sandwiches for local homeless shelters is a perfect example of community service, because you are feeding the people in you city.  Today I cleaned up trash in local parks and informed the community of local events.  The definition of community service is to help your community without getting anything in return.  I encourage everyone to do something each month that helps your community.  Just remember you are not helping, because you are getting money in return for your good deeds;  you are helping, because it is the right thing to do!

STOP HUNGER NOW!

I took part in a program recently called Stop Hunger Now, which is a meal packaging program providing volunteers with an opportunity to package dehydrated, high protein, and highly nutritious meals.  These meals are sent to schools and orphanages in the developing countries around the world.  The packages that we put together are being sent to Africa!  It is amazing how many people showed up to the event.  We made about 1,000 meals (one meal feeds an entire family) in one minute!  I took a two-hour shift an in that time frame we made an estimated total of 120,000 meals!  That’s a lot!  Take a look to see how it is done!
